You Make Beautiful Things Out Of The Dust

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears. Or I suppose a lending of your eyes may be more appropriate for this forum. How has everyone's week been?  I thought this week was going to be boring with not much happening but then lots of things happened and it was good. Apart from Hugh's cat getting run over and being put down, that was a sad event. More on that later.

I saw my lovely friend Abbie for dinner last night which was wonderful because I hadn't seen her for ages. We went to Wagamama's, oh my days, yummo. Our waiter was a bit over-friendly though, y'know when they think they're your friend and try and joke around with you or even chime in on your conversation and it's like....what is this?! Go away!
In other news, news which I alluded to mere seconds ago, I went with the olds to Bath Cats and Dogs Home to look at a replacement for the flat-cat (Is it too soon to joke? I think so. Sincere Apologies).
Anyway, we looked at cats and they were all incred and I wanted to bring them all home. I actually asked one of the people that worked there if there was a limit to the number of cats you could adopt. She just laughed. What does a cat-enthusiast have to do to be taken seriously around here?  Hugh ended up reserving two black kittens because all the grown up cats didn't like other cats and let's be honest....Pin really is something else, so kittens are really the safest route.

With that great announcement out the way, it's on to the Great Selection.

ONE.
We went to the fireworks last Saturday, which was SO fun! I wasn't really in the mood to go out and we decided right at the last minute to go and I found I'd forgotten how flipping great fireworks are haha. I got really into it and kept pummeling Matt in my excitement. "Matt, look! *smash, smash, smash*"  Here are some photos of our time there. They're not very good, sary. But here they are nonetheless, forcing themselves into your lives whether you like it or not.
YES FIREWORKS, WE ARE SO READY.

Dreadful picture of a very pleasant sight

OOOOH!

AAHHH!

TWO.
More exciting news to share with you - my Great Mate JJ is also back from university now and living at home and not enjoying it massively, so I proffered an invitation in her direction: that she come and live with me in Malmesbury and we could be housies. She only went and flipping accepted and she's moving into Jerome's room on Sunday (oh yeah, by the way, Jerome, JJ's moving into your room). It's going to be brilliant waking up in a non-empty house and having someone to TALK to and chill out with. I'm going to make her be friends with all my Malmesbury friends and then they can love her too. Here's a picture of us together so I prove to you I'm not making her up and that we are already friends.

See. Friends.

THREE.
This week has also resulted in a strange abundance of paid activity for me. HAHA that sounds bad, I should elaborate.  The youth leader at the Abbey is a hilarious man called Paul and he asked me if I could replace his cleaning lady and I said yes. PAHAHA. I'm a cleaning lady now. Seriously, could I BE any more domesticated?  I did my first clean this week and it. was. awesome. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a massive geek and I.....brace yourself....love cleaning. I hate cleaning my own home though, it's just really annoying cleaning up after yourself, but I flipping love organising other people's homes. And he sent me a text saying I'd done an excellent job. AN EXCELLENT JOB I tell you. I came away and bought a wide selection of cleaning fluids and sponges with a scrubby side. *hangs head in shame*
I also was asked by Great Mate Jess if I could cover someone at her work in London for a day, so I'm blates gonna do that. Hello day-in-London-earning-money-and-pretending-to-be-a-grown-up.

FOUR.
Here's a stumbly selection for your delectation haha.  Stumbled across this earlier this week. Is it the best bathroom in the world? Possibly.  This is funny. This is way funnier, especially the guy's comments under each photo HAHA. This is massively overdone across the universe but it's still pretty cool. And finally, I want to live in this.

FIVE.
After mentioning Gungor's song 'Beautiful Things' recently, I bought the album and have been listening to it so much, it's so brilliant. This is my official recommendation. It's a really beautiful album with songs that get into your head really quickly. It's God-y but not all the songs are massively God-y. For all you Christians out there, it's like worship music that's not really like worship music, just wonderful words and lovely melodies. And for all you non-Christians out there, this is an amazing album that has stuff about God in it sometimes. Don't let that put you off though, I heard he's pretty rad.

Peace out, friends, Romans and countrymen.

PS. If there are any actual Romans reading this, kudos.

Whatever Mate, We've All Got Our Problems

Hello world!  What a week it's been, it's gone so fast! I've had a couple of lovely compliments about the old blog this week, thanks so much to all my fans. It's great to hear that people enjoy reading my fascinating thoughts and musings. I mean, who can blame you, I am brilliant.

I've been in London all week with work. Haha look at me, "with work". I sound so grown up. It was a really good week though, we went to four meetings and two were GREAT. Two were super boring and also someone asked if me and my mother were related and when we said yes, she started being really patronising to me and referring to my mother as "mum" whenever she spoke to me. I was like "LADY, I've just spent the whole meeting referring to her as Kathy, I think you should do the same". I didn't say that though, I totes wish I had. I got to use the iPad loads too, I felt incredibly professional and modern. Until I couldn't work out how to do something in the middle of a meeting so had to resort to writing notes instead. Embarrassssinng.

Anyway, here are some things that are NOT embarrassing; they are in fact brilliant which is why they feature HERE!

ONE.
I should mention a bit more about the week in London coz I did do more things than just work. I stayed with my brother who is my favourite person pretty much ever. I wish I could spend more time with him but....y'know, life gets in the way. The blog title comes from him, uttered during an advert for starving children HAHA. We spent Tuesday arvo shopping - I bought a delightful coat with some birthday money (yeah my birthday's in February, I've been deliberating, OKKKKKKK). It was bant, there are some pictures below for your enjoyment. I was also lucky enough to see my friend Jess for dinner TWICE. We had cooked breakfasts on the first evening haha. Sadly I was unable to take photos of this blessed event, I'm sure you can imagine how flipping great that must have been. I also saw my lovely friend Kate from uni who made me feel much better about some things I'd been worrying about. Lucky us, having friends.

Pretty sweet Christmas displays

Yep. Pretty much sums that up.

Let's take a picture of us together

Haha, ok that was funny, but come on...

Jerome! Come onnnn, just smile.

HAHA I can see what you're doing in the shop window reflection

M8s.

TWO.
This FLIPPING BRILLIANT video was brought to my attention this week by my fwend Nath. I mean...I don't think I can really do it justice through these mere words. Just watch it and then watch it again and again and again and again. I couldn't stop laughing, I was in real pain from laughing so much.

THREE.
Oh my days, it is the finale of Downton this weekend. That really required extra emphasis. I've read that someone might die. I am so so excited, I can't WAIT for series three, AND I heard that there's a Christmas special, a woooo HOOOOOOOO!!!
Let me know your thoughts once you've watched it!
Anyone else rapidly losing interest in this year's X Factor? I was well into it last year and have been watching it this year but with dwindling interest. I watch with little care, and all this hyped up judges nonsense is getting ridic.

FOUR.
Following last week's baking success, I am going to be attempting banana bread again this week and try not to burn my face off. I'll show you what it looks like when it's finished....
As an additional note to this geeky choice, if any of you are students and reading this, know that my essay-help services are still open for business. Stimulate my mind please.

FIVE.
A real treat for you for making it to the end. Found this on stumbleupon and you will love it. HAHA it's really funny and brilliant. The last one is hilarious.

BE GOOD. UNTIL NEXT WEEK PEOPLE!
love.

My Aim In Life Is To Have A Fully Functional Appendix By 35

Friends, readers, followers. Salutations. Apologies for the late post this week, I never seem able to remember to post on the same day each week. I'm sure none of you notice or mind.
This week has been pretty go-od, the highlight was definitely yesterday though.
I went with Matt and his brother Dan to Winchester to see our friends Sarah and Tom to complete a super-top-secret-but-very-exciting-project and it was completed successfully and you will be hearing about it soon. It is very exciting, and will enrich your lives remarkably.
Prepare to be enriched.
We also went out for dinner and I asked Sarah thousands of doctor questions because she is a doctor and all I know of doctoring is watching House. So she told us about the appendix, after which Tom declared he was aiming to force his appendix into functionality. Watch this space.

This week also has seen me finally apply for a PGCE (a teaching degree for those of you unfamiliar with such jargon). I've applied to Bath Spa and Goldsmiths in our nation's capital, so I will let you all know if and when I hear that they actually think I could teach children stuff. It's very exciting though and now I know that teaching is what I want to do, I just want to plough on with it. Enough of this unemployment lark!

My mother also bought an iPad and needs me to teach her how to use it, as if I somehow know haha. Hello online tutorials and emails from Joel, iPad user extraordinaire.

AND NOW! Here is a selection of wonder for you to be enraptured by.

ONE.
Yesterday, I remembered a video that I watched pretty much every day in second year at uni. And then made all my housemates watch every day. In fact I loved it so much that my housemate Kelly bought me this:

It's had about 2 million views, and I think I account for about 500,000 of those. Watch it. And love it. Because it is MARVELLOUS.

TWO.
Went on a bit of a baking spree this week; I'm waiting for some bananas to fully ripen and go rank so I can make banana bread. The recipe calls for sultanas to be soaked in brandy or something and you have to heat them up together and last time I totally didn't think about what would happen when the brandy got hot and it flamed up really high and SO nearly set my face alight haha. Thankfully my reflexes are superhuman and I was able to move quickly enough. Anyway, I made these whilst waiting for the bananas to ripen. I really like baking but the effort of having to specially buy ingreds is super taxing, but thankfully my cupboard was stocked enough to just roll into the kitchen and whip these up. Hello domestic goddess.

THREE.
I have had thousands of requests from all over the world for more coverage of Pin. She hasn't been too naughty this week but LUCY ATE MY SALAD off my plate. I left the room for like...2 minutes and I came back to find she'd eaten part of the salad I had lovingly prepared for dinner. What kind of cat eats salad? Pin has been mischievous in other ways though. Mainly right now, while I'm trying to write this.
Look at where Lucy is sleeping:

Acceptable distance, minding her own business, just basking in my presence.

Now look at Pin's journey, from leaping up onto my bed to where she is now:

Good morning. Just checking all's in order.

Just...just looking over your shoulder actually. Not planning on staying.

Yes I'm actually very interested in the World Wide Web, what's happening here? Can you explain?

Yeah, I'm just gonna go ahead and sit myself down.

FOUR.
Great Mate Tom Price (of appendix fame) led worship at the Abbey last week and we did a really great new song called Beautiful Things by Gungor. It is such a lovely song and reminds me that nothing is impossible with God; even in a situation that seems hopeless, He can bring new and beautiful things out of it. Even if you're not a big fan of God, you'll love this song :D

FIVE.
I am a huge fan of Charlie Brooker's articles on the Guardian website. He manages to be hilarious whilst simultaneously making very good points. This article about clubbing is one of my favourites of all time. "Really, why bother? Why not just stay at home punching yourself in the face?"  Go and read it because it is so flipping great.
HAHA.

ENJOY. And be good.

The Deer, Now Blinded, Stumbles Into A Ravine

Hellooo!
Heavens to betsy, who's getting excited for Winter? I. Am. I flipping love Winter. I've got no time for September, constantly not sure if I should wear a jumper or jeans and then it looks cold but it's actually hot, or vice versa. Multiple wardrobe calamities. Calamities...? Calamitii?Anyway, it's starting to get a bit chilly, we had a fire the other night it was that cold. But I don't think the situation is helped by the gaping hole in our hallway wall (YES it's still freaking there).
Look at lovely wintry Malmesbury
This week has also been super Country-Living-esque in that I helped my mother make cider. It. Was. Awesome. We started off mashing up the apples with a huge hammer. I'm talking ginormous. Sledgehammer territory. But the apples weren't getting smashed enough so we put them in a blender. It was SO fun! Again, I took loads of great pictures but my bluetooth just doesn't seem to exist any more, it's so annoyinggg. Just imagine a little barrel with a big red stick in the top that you use to twist the top down super tight so all the apple juice gets crushed out a little tap. ALSO, had the worst experience with the first apple I picked up - there was a little gross bit so I cut it out and there was a LIVE. INSECT. living inside and it crawled out. I freaked out. Threw the apple, ran away. Urgh, even thinking about it is the worst, I feel like it's on me.

AND NOW, on with the show!

ONE.
I just have to pay homage to Bill Bailey. We watched his Part Troll DVD the other night and I rediscovered so many hilarious jokes. The man's a genius. This is the best bit of the whole show, you will love it. We went to see him a few years ago, it was so amaze.

TWO.
I am so into Strictly at the moment, I know I posted about it before, but this series is sooo good! It's so good when there's someone on it that you hate. I mean..having a favourite is great and everything but the favourites are usually everyone's favourite which means they'll always get voted for so there's no point getting all invested in liking someone. You should get invested in disliking someone, it makes it way more exciting. Nancy Stupid Old Dell'Olio is still in, I can't beliiiiiieve she didn't get voted off on Sunday. There was this really weird, awkward bit after they danced where she was trying to make a joke about Bruce inviting her to his dressing room but no one got it and it was so cringe. She is so cringe! Aaah!

THREE.
Watch this video. I'm not usually an dog-video kind of a person, they tend to irritate me coz cats are far more hilarious, so this one's not as good as the stupid cat one from a few months ago (I mean, that's the best video on the entire internet) but it is pretty good haha, mainly the voice that's done for the dog haha.

FOUR.
I haven't stumbled for a while but spent an hour or so this morning viewing some great things. This is absolutely lovely, really beautiful but not in a lame girly way, it's accessible for people of all gender ;-)  Go and have a look for yourself

FIVE.
Goodness, it feels like those four went quickly and suddenly it's the end! This is a super girly on, soz gents. I bought some nail varnish this week from Model's Own after it was recommended by Kim on Sweet Monday, it is SO GREAT. It's quite expensive but it's so worth it, I could have got away with just one coat but two looks so much better. I bought Nude Beige and Purple Grey and they are SO beautiful. They're doing buy 3, save £3 so GO GO GO!

And so I leave you for this week. I'll leave you with a funny picture of a mouse that I rescued from Lucy which then sat right outside the door, taunting her with its continuing-aliveness.

He Kissed Me..On My Bottom

HIIIIII!

Hahaha how funny is that blog title. It's from this hilare episode of IT Crowd. You should watch it. I don't actually know which episode though. A really funny one.
How has everyone's week been? I have done work and arranged lots of things, like volunteering at Dorothy House and I helped my mum do her VAT return thing, which involved sorting through thousands of receipts and putting them in date order. Arghhh.

Also, I helped my mum bottle pears HAHA. So domesticated. It was really fun though, we had to poach the pears and make this syrup to go all over it and we had to heat up the jars to sterilise them. It was very autumnal.  And I took loads of great pictures to show you but my phone is STILL crap so they won't send, it's so annoyinggggg. I'm blates gonna get an iPhone and then send thousands and thousands of photos to my computer, just because I can.

I thought you'd be fascinated to learn of a new development in the hallway-damp-stalemate. Some builders came this week and knocked a huge hole in the wall and then put a cup (yes, a CUP) in the hole to catch some dripping water and then went away. Literally. My mum was like "....are you coming back..?" and then they came back a bit later and were all "yeah there's a leaky pipe in there so you need to dry it out". It's like an ancient stone-age pipe, pretty much been in there since before the house was built. Heavens to betsy. This is the current situation now.

State of the art drip catching technology

So now you're caught up on the ridiculousness of my life, here is this week's TOP FIIIIIVE!

ONE.
I think I mentioned that Matt and I had gone to Southampton to be in Luke Leighfield's video for 'Have You Got Heart?'  It was finished this week and it's ossum. Although....there was going to be this incredible bit with me and Great Mate Sarah and Luke's lady Ruth and it's not been included. Rude. But the rest of it is great, Matt gets some serious coverage. He's super famous.

TWO.
As I mentioned last week, Matt and I went to my dad's this weekend and we did get to experience the pool. It was a bit ments. Like...'we're in England..in October...in a pool...outside' haha. ALSO, the small brown dog got so fully excited and jumped in so many times, it was funny the first time but then it was a bit gross, y'know, like dog hair in the pool. Sick. We watched Strictly though, wooooo! I FLIPPING love it! It was a great opening, and there was one super cringe dance where Nancy Dell'Olio's costume completely scuppered her performance. Watch the it here, but get ready to cringe. It looked like it was going to be poo anyway, but oh man.

THREE.
As many of you will know, I am something of a House fan. It was a long-standing joke at uni that House was the only thing that sustained me. I just love it, I love Hugh Laurie probably too much. So I was all excited about the new series coming out on dvd coz I don't like watching stuff online coz it's all scraggy or you have to download it - effort. Anyway, I wanted to buy the dvds but was unemployed so had no spare pennies but NOW I've got work I'm going a bit mental on amazon haha. I can't WAIT for it to arrive!  Eeep! If you've never watched House, a) what is wrong with you?  and b) watch this and start getting involved.

FOUR.
TWO of my friends have managed to convince people to employ them this week after job hunting for months and months. I couldn't be more proud of them after trying so hard for so long. CONGRATULATIONS to you both!  It also gives me hope that being employed full time is not a mere pipe dream. Here's a funny picture of Lucy lying flat underneath my duvet as a prize. I know that you'll both appreciate this and that it will give you the courage to begin your new jobs on Monday morning. WELL DONE.

FIVE.
We're going to see Panic at le discoteque in Manchester in January! EEEEPPPPEEEEEPPPPPEEEEPPPPPPEEEEPPP!! I'm terribly excited. Oh my days, it's going to be so great. And then Brand New in February. Goodness me, what a delectable line up.

Be good children, remember daily how blessed and fortunate we are.

You Are A Lady! Not Toad of Toad Hall!

Friends!
As you'll note from the blog title, I am thoroughly enjoying Downton Abbey as mentioned last week. Maggie Smith is a flipping genius, I heart her character so much haha.
This week has been a strange one, I can't believe a week has gone by already. I started working part time for KHPR this week, it's been good to have things to do for most of the day, I've done lots of phoning around and typing up meeting notes and all that jazz. We went to a meeting on Wednesday and the people had their dogs just milling about in the office. It was rad.

Now before you get too deep into this post I must issue a warning - my phone is useless and sadly will not allow me to send some of the hilarious pictures I have taken for this week's post. So I'm afraid this week's offering is rather text-heavy. I hope your imaginations will suffice.

Anyhoo, this weekend I'm off to my dad's with the boy - we're teaming up to watch the first episodes of Strictly. Not that I'm a slave to tv or anything. My dad has a pool at his house. Yes, an actual pool. A hole in the ground full of water. It's pretty exciting, although I've never actually been in it. Because it's such incredible ridiculous weather, I anticipate some pool-action later haha. They have two dogs too, and one of them got over-excited and jumped in once, but then was really overwhelmed about its decision and didn't know what to do with itself, just flapping about in the water.

Oh my days, I was just listening to some Rhianna (lol) while I was writing this and she was getting very distracting, shouting about being the only girl in the world. Goodness me, her voice is terribly grating at times. She's off now, back in your box Rhian.

ONE.
Number one this week is the mighty Pin. She has been such a character this week. Sadly I have been unable to take many pictures of her caught in the act of her cheeky ways but yesterday she was running about, getting all upset about the lack of water in her bowl. I washed the bowl out, made it all nice, ran the tap to make the water nice and cold and then she just sniffed it and went away. I found her upstairs drinking from the toilet. And then when I removed her, I found her moments later drinking from the taps. She is incorrigible. But look at her little face, who can deny that she is a king.

TWO.
I mentioned last week that I was starting to read a book called The State of Africa - I'm not that far into it yet but oh my days, it is so good. It's a history of independence and it's so so interesting. I don't really know that much about the colonies and carving up of Africa and having been to Zim twice, it's fascinating to read about how they got to where they are now. It's quite statistic-heavy in places which I always find hard to get my head around properly, to understand the implications of the numbers and there are a lot of names of different leaders to try to remember but it's really enjoyable so far. Everyone should read it.
Look here. You could buy it.

THREE.
Now I wasn't quite sure how to include this but I have decided it has to have its own little section because it's something that I think will be cheering. My great mate Katie is in America at the moment, pretending to be an American, but we're actually hearing now that her British accent is giving her away somewhat. Also, the total lack of proper chocolate and X Factor is proving to be rather more of an issue than she had previously anticipated. So this is a little section for her to say HELLO and WE MISS YOU and we can't wait to see you again when you come home. And we think you should just come home right now and we can all win the lottery and buy a big house and all live in it together and watch Downton Abbey every day and eat loads of crisps and dip. Don't be sad, everything will work out just hunky-dory. And here's a very old, funny picture for you to enjoy and reminisce over.

FOUR.
The Onion is one of my favouritest websites ever. It is super hilarious and cutting and satirical and lol-worthy. I spent most of yesterday afternoon reading through all the hilarious short news stories. Here are a few for your enjoyment.
Otherwise Savvy Woman Duped By Mascara Makers Again
Bill Gates Spends $56 Million On Amazon In One Night
New Apple CEO Tim Cook: "I'm Thinking Printers"
Family Requests Privacy During This Unbelievably Awesome Time

FIVE.
And finally. WE GOT TICKETS TO SEE BRAND NEW.
That is all.
Enjoy them.

Friends Made Of Fruit #2

Aloha!
How are we all at this end of this week?  I trust everyone is high on life. I have had a mental week; I can hardly believe I'm attempting this blog post, my brain is so addled with fatigue.
I spent the week getting up at 6.30am, working 7-12 at the cafe, then childminding three under-5s from 2-7. I'm surprised I'm not dead.
Did anyone know that small children are a total nightmare? I mean like...individually, they are wonderful but all together....there are no words. They also think things that aren't funny are funny for ages.
"the other day, she laughed for, like, an hour, at a cup"

Anyway, the week's over and I'm excited for the weekend. I'm spending all of tomorrow with my friends JJ and Jess and then seeing my uni housemates on Sunday in Reading. I am SO looking forward to seeing everyone.

BUT NOW......ON WITH THE SHOW.

ONE.
Number One is currently Number One in my life (besides Jesus, who is closely followed by Matt). It is something which I have been waiting on for months, pining, fondly reminiscing with myself over good times spent together, wistfully gazing into the future wondering what time has in store for us.
I am, of course, referring to the return of the wondrous Downton Abbey.
What a program. WHAT A PROGRAM. In revelation of true snobbery, I am actually super surprised at ITV's ability to produce something that does not involve idiot members of the public or ridiculous animals. The 2nd series is set in World War One, and I'm sensing there may be a great loss of a major character at some point. One episode in, I am delighted at Downton's ability to still be great without being predictable or repetitive. I literally can't get enough. I'm spending all day tomorrow with JJ and Jess watching the entire first series from end to end. There will be duvets and biscuits involved. Bet you're jel.
Here are some videos of said wonder to entertain you.  You should also definitely watch the Comic Relief version; it's hilare. Ooh I'm getting all emotional watching this promo.

TWO.
Number Two this week is also televisually based. I have spent all my evenings this week watching re-runs of Miranda. I also may have bought the first series on DVD. Y'know, with all the money I've got lying around.
Miranda is everything that's right with the world. I fully recognise why people don't like it though, as I didn't like it when I first watched it. I was like...'why are you speaking into the camera....why is a tall woman falling over funny?' and then I realised that a tall woman falling over is hilarious. What convinced me of its genius however, is that her mother is my mother. I mean....it's like watching my mother on television. If you have never met my mother but really want to, watch Miranda. Although...my mother isn't that old, or that desperate for me to get married. And she dresses in a disturbingly fashionable manner, unlike Miranda's mother. But in all other respects, they are the same. Watch it now, thank me later.

THREE.
Oh dear, I'm realising too late that most sections this week are about moving images projected from a small box in the corner of my sitting room. Started watching Grey's Anatomy this week. It's flipping ace. I love it, although Meredith's voice is well weird. And she acts kinda weird sometimes. I'm only a few eps in but I've only heard good things about it. I'm excited for watching more.

FOUR.
Finished a book this week. I can't remember if I've mentioned it on here before but I'll give you a mini-mini-review anyway. A Week In December by Sebastian Faulks follows seven people over seven days in the week before Christmas 2007. Some of the characters are super predictable and dull (hello disillusioned suicide bomber), and others are super interesting (hello greedy city banker). I love reading books that are heavy on the stream of consciousness as opposed to reams of dialogue or physical descriptions. Because of the range of characters, you get such a broad spectrum of ideologies and opinions and it's so fascinating to think about the way that some people think. There is quite a lot of financial detail in the city banker chapters which I admit did confuse me at times but having learnt a little more about the current economic situation, I was able to understand a little more what was going on. You should read it, I really enjoyed it. Next book: The State of Africa, a non-fiction about...well...Africa. Duh.

FIVE.
Section Five is dedicated to somebody wonderful.
Matthew Withers, would you please stand up.
Thank you for always being yourself, thank you for making me laugh.
Happy birthday, you are beautiful and I love you.

Peace out friends, be good.
